The extreme north-eastern Cameroon attacked by Boko Haram

The nigerian armed group Boko Haram has invested a military camp in the town of Achigachia sunday december 28th. Islamist attackers even a moment their flag hoisted in the village. Witnesses expressed intense fighting against the Cameroonian army. Thousands of people are now fleeing the area.
Boko Haram flag floated proudly for nearly four hours at Achigachia. The town that houses a cameroonian military camp had been stormed from 4am by nearly a thousand fighters Boko Haram. This massive attack forced the cameroonian military to retreat, leaving the field open to attackers who once invested the camp.
The siege lasted as long as military aviation comes in. A source at the Cameroon Ministry of Defense has confirmed to RFI that the army had to resort to fighter-bombers to pound this military camp. Boko Haram fighters before their flight, have nevertheless had time to use equipment and armament. No death toll has yet been disclosed, but according to military sources on site, it could be very heavy.
It was the first time that the cameroonian army used aircraft against Boko Haram. A choice justified by the strategy of Boko Haram says Badjek colonel, spokesman of the cameroonian army. "We understand that the enemy wanted to take care on all fronts. From there, I think that aviation is extremely important for us to win not only mobility but also flexibility", he says. "We were apprehensive to use air power because of the collateral damage. But from the moment when the enemy is identified on a geographic standpoint, I think we will use air power. This is actually a rise in our means. This is proof that we can meet any gradation of the conflict".
These fights have come close a weekend that saw incursions multiply in the area at different points along the border. The situation has generated the displacement of thousands of people from war zones for communities located further inside the country.
