Attacks in Istanbul airport


At least 36 people, including foreigners, were killed and 147 injured Tuesday night in a triple suicide attack at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, an attack whose shocking images were broadcast and that seems to be the mark of the Islamic State group.
Wednesday, ten hours after the attack, no details had been provided on the number of foreigners among the victims nor the nationality of the attackers.
This is the deadliest attack in the Turkish metropolis already targeted three times this year.
Photos and videos shock broadcast on social networks showed a huge fireball at the terminal entrance and members of the security doing evacuate passengers screaming in the hallways, panicked. On one of these videos, one of the kamikazes appear on the ground, wounded by a police shooting, writhing in pain before triggering his explosive belt.
According to authorities, the first explosions occurred at the entrance of the terminal of international flights to 10 PM (19.00 GMT). Three attackers strafed passengers and police officers on duty, a shootout erupted and kamikazes blew themselves up.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan quickly urged the international community to "common fight" against terrorism. "This attack, which took place during the month of Ramadan, shows that terrorism strikes regardless of faith or values", said the head of state.

The method reminds jihadist attacks bloodied Paris in November (130 deads) and Brussels (32 deads in the subway and airport) in March.

Brussels Airport has tweeted his condolences: "Our thoughts are with the victims of the attack in Istanbul".
